DIY Watercolor and gold coasters

Spring table setting idea

Hey friends! How have you been? Can you believe it's already April? I can't! Apparently time flies when you are having fun. So Spring is finally here! It's kind of in the air, not everyday, more like twice a week but that's enough to get me started thinking about Easter decorations. In particular about Easter table setting and little Watercolor DIY I promised to share with you.

As I mentioned few days ago, my first attempt to watercolor was so much fun that I had to make something out of it...and no it is not a wall art! It's a pretty addition to the table setting, to be more precise a pink watercolor coaster with some golden touch for our drinks or Easter eggs.

Every time I think of holiday decorations I start with a color palette to avoid looking too festive, decor-creepy like. The best way to keep your home fresh, is to stick to the same theme and colors everywhere. So this year's Easter is definitely inspired by light pink watercolor smudges, gold and blue-greys. But before I tell you how the coasters are made, let me introduce you to my golden cutlery. How do you like it? I think it goes pretty well with the rest of the setting.

So about the coasters...there are actually two versions of it - the more golden one for super-sparkle lovers with a gold leaf on the sides and the less golden one with only golden paint applied to the edges. The instructions and supplies are almost the same, so let me show you what I did here.

You will need:

-10x10 ceramic tiles from your local hardware store
- thick arty-paper
- watercolor paints
- brushes + craft sponge
- golden acrylic paint
- golden leaf
-mat mod podge glue
- felt pads (optional)

Step by step tutorial

Step 1 Make some delicate smudges on a paper with different shades of pink
Step 2 Once your watercolored paper is dry, cut the square pieces out of it to fit the size of your ceramic tiles (10x10cm in my case)
Step 3 Using brush or sponge applicator apply thin layer of mod podge glue on top of the tile.
Step 4 Carefully place the water colored paper on top of the tile and adjust it quickly before it gets sticky.
Step 5 Once it has dried, apply the layer of mod podge on top of the watercolored paper and wait until it's dry (repeat twice)
Step 6 Paint edges of your the ceramic tile with golden acrylic paint.
Step 7 (Extra step) Apply very thin layer of mod podge on the edges and place golden leaf for more sparkly effect.
Step 8 Add the pieces of felt to the back of the coaster so they will not scratch up your table and they are ready to use!

Ta daaa! Which version do you prefer? When it comes to gold paint and gold leaf I have no shame recently so I think both versions look great. It can be a great addition to your Easter table setting, as well as a  cute, handmade gift for some lovely lady in your life. In fact I think they can fit a lot of different occasions, which is why I like them so much.
